One chord, one pattern, every note on paper
The C7, the alternating bass, the palm muting and the pattern note by note, in tab and notation.
You've seen the pattern in the video. Here it is written down: the finger that plays each note, where the palm goes, how to count it, and the same shape moved to F7 so you have a little progression to play it on.
What's inside
Six things you'll learn
1
The C7 open chord
A C major plus the pinky on fret 3 of the G string.
2
The alternating bass
C and G with the ring finger, and back.
3
Palm muting on the bass only
Where the palm goes, and why the G and B strings keep ringing.
4
The pinch
Two sounds at once: a muted D string and a ringing B string.
5
The pattern, note by note
Tab and notation, with p i m and the count.
6
C7 to F7
The same shape on fret 8 and an 8-bar progression to play it on.
Why it works
What the video shows, explained on paper
1
Where the palm goes
Photos from the lesson: next to the bridge, not near the sound hole.
2
What each finger plays
Thumb, index and middle. No ring finger.
3
How to practise it
Built up note by note, then a tempo ladder from slow to fast.
All of it with tab, notation and photos from the lesson, ready to print and keep on the music stand.
Who it's for
If you can play a C chord, you can play this. If you already fingerpick, it may come easily. If you've never played a pattern like this, it will take you some time, but once you get it, it's one chord that sounds like a whole song.
My tip number one, before anything else:
muting first.
